Alice L. Anderson
Age 77, longtime resident of Livonia, passed away April 15, 2022. She was born on November 12, 1944 in Los Angeles, California; daughter of Edwin and Annie (Walker) Johnstone. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit; Class of 1962. Alice was united in marriage to Richard Anderson on June 25, 1966; they spent 55 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Following high school Alice did a year of nursing training at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit before deciding nursing wasn’t for her. Alice found a career she loved as a payroll manager with Corporate Personnel Services for over 20 years. She enjoyed the diversity of her career as she had the opportunity to manage a wide spectrum of individuals from blue collar workers to high level executives.
Alice was a member of the Red Hat Society of Howell. Active with the group she attended conventions, plays, and luncheons all while donning the traditional red and purple. A patron of the arts, she liked to attend musicals, plays, and concerts. Each year she went to see the Nutcracker with her girls and had the good fortune of seeing many shows including the 3 Tenors and Celine Dion with her husband. Alice was an avid reader; her favorite genres were mysteries and the large collection of romance novels she had. Blessed with a green thumb, she grew beautiful flowers, in particular roses, in the baseball diamond shaped bed her husband created for her in the backyard. Alice’s love for her family, especially her children and grandchildren, was unconditional and encompassed everything she did. She was incredibly supportive and attended almost all of the sporting events and school events they participated in over the years. Adoringly known as Nana, she took every chance she had to spend with her grandchildren. Together they made many trips to the Detroit and Toledo Zoos, spent time at Maybury, and went to see all the latest movies. She also took any opportunity to spend with her “grand dogs” spoiling them with affection. Holidays with her family were always over the top and hosted with great attention to detail for those that would be there. Each Christmas everyone received a special gift, just for them and she made sure everyone had a personalized Easter basket and the eggs were well hidden for the annual hunt. Alice’s true joy in life was caring for her family and making sure they knew how much they were loved.
Alice is survived by her loving husband, Richard Anderson; her children, Steven (Angela) Anderson, Amy (Robert) Abdo, Glenn Anderson, Christopher Anderson, Jeffrey (Rachel) Anderson, and Jill Anderson; her grandsons, Zachary, Benjamin, Ethan, and Cooper; and her sister, Cynthia Romero. She was preceded in death by her parents.
