William R. St. Lawrence
Age 87, lifelong resident of Northville, passed away on February 25, 2022. He was born on September 25, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan; son of William and Thelma (Lesher) St. Lawrence. He graduated from Catholic Central High School; Class of 1954. Bill was united in marriage to Ulinda Ely on October 31, 1954; they spent 67 loving years together as husband and wife.
Bill worked for Ely Fuel, retiring after 30 years with the company. He was an avid golfer and played in the Northville golf league for many years. He was also in a bowling league. Bill had a love of horses which he started riding at age 8. He owned several horses that raced at Northville Downs and other regional racetracks. For 30 years, Northville Downs leased the land owned by Bill for their barns, when the lease was up, the land was developed as condominiums. He played hockey in high school and continued playing recreational hockey throughout his life, including a team sponsored by Ely Fuel. Bill enjoyed many outdoor activities including, bike riding, riding his motorcycle through Hines Park, and deer hunting up north with his son. He also enjoyed boating on Oxbow Lake and Crystal Lake where he and his family vacationed each year. He visited Florida often; some of his favorite places were Lakeland where he would watch Tigers baseball spring training, Homosassa and Sanibel Island to visit family, and Ft. Meyers. He also traveled with his family out East and took golf trips with friends to Hilton Head Island. Bill, who was an expert at having fun, was devoted to caring for his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be truly missed by those who loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ulinda St. Lawrence; his children, Mike (Dora Purcell) St. Lawrence, Molly St. Lawrence, and Marty (Shari) St. Lawrence; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Ely; his grandchildren, Jim, Rachel, Tony, and Billy; and his great grandchildren, Macey, Braden, Margaret, Tyler, and Zachery. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald St. Lawrence, his in-laws Margaret and Charles Ely, and his brother-in-law Charles Ely.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Deacon Ric Misiak from Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church will officiate the service.
