William H. Hooth, age 88, recently of Clarkston, passed away on August 3, 2024. He was born on February 9, 1936 in Kalamazoo, Michigan; son of Howard and Pearl (Piner) Hooth. He graduated from Portage High School; class of 1953. Following high school, he attended Western Michigan University. He also proudly served his country as a Corpsman in the United States Navy. Bill was united in marriage to Mary Ann Greenwood on June 16, 1956; they spent 68 years lovingly devoted to one another.
After moving back to Michigan from California, Bill and Mary Ann chose to raise their family in Northville. Bill worked as a salesman for the Mead Corporation and subsequently the Rock-Tenn Company after their merger with the Mead Corp. He retired in 1999 after 39 years. After retirement, Bill and Mary Ann relocated to Fort Meyers, Florida where Bill began working with ECHO, empowering self-sustainable hunger solutions for small-scale farmers.
Bill's church and family were the cornerstones of his life. He served as an elder, deacon, choir member, and Sunday school teacher at both the Church of the Savior in Livonia and New Hope Presbyterian Church in Fort Myers. Additionally, he played a significant role in the fundraising efforts to build New Hope in Florida.
Bill was known for his generosity and his ability to make friends with anyone he met. He loved laughing, having fun, and enjoying a warm home-cooked meal. He will be deeply missed and his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his son, Mike (Trisha) Hooth; his grandchildren, Marcus (Nikki) Biggins and Trevor Hooth; and a great-grandchild due to arrive in January 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Marc Hooth, his daughter Rebecca Hooth-Roy; his sisters Pat and Ninalee, and his brother Walter.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with Military Honors being rendered at 5:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.
