William M. Arnold, age 70 of Northville, passed away July 12, 2021. He was born on November 17, 1950 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan; son of Lester Dale and Kathryn Elizabeth (nee Walsh) Arnold. Bill proudly served in the United States Navy from 1971-1976. He was stationed on the USS Piedmont patrolling the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea while assigned as the Chaplain’s Assistant.
Bill graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Mount Pleasant; class of 1969. He continued his education at Wayne State University and Central Michigan University. Bill graduated with a bachelor’s degree from CMU. He was a huge supporter and fan of the CMU Chippewas Football. Bill also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers.
He was an avid reader and loved learning about history. World War II and the history of war was a topic that fascinated him. He liked playing cards with his brothers-in-law and his father-in-law. Bill golfed often with friends and looked forward to competing with them to win The Arnold Award during a yearly outing. He was a frequent recipient of the award. Bill enjoyed listening to music especially Jazz and Blues. He was sociable and entertaining; frequently gathering with his many friends at Rocky’s or Table 5.
Bill is survived by his son Nicholas (Athena Drew) Arnold; his sister Sheila Hodges; and his sister-in-law Ann Arnold. He is also survived by his former wife and dear friend Trudy Fortino and the Fortino family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Arnold, his brother-in-law Robert Hodges, and his fiancée Sheila Szot.
Memorial visitation will be held Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 1pm until 3pm with a memorial service beginning at 3pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. He will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
