Vincenzo Candela

July 8, 1940 — December 10, 2021

Vincenzo Candela, age 81, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 10, 2021. He was born July 8, 1940 in Buseto Palizzolo, Sicily, Italy; son of Emanuele and Maria (neé Daidone) Candela. In 1955, 15 year-old Vince and his family immigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American Dream. After arriving at Ellis Island, they moved to Detroit, Michigan. Three years later, a young lady named Nancy Pearson was riding in a convertible and caught Vince's eye while he was cruising Woodward. Lucky for him (since he still spoke only broken English), her heart melted right when he called out, "Hey Baby!" and a love story lasting over 58 years began. They were united in marriage on June 29, 1963.

Vince was an outstanding and loyal auto parts salesman with Auto Wares. He built trusting relationships with his customers who quickly warmed to Vince’s personality and became dear friends. He believed in the products he sold and the company he worked for. Vince retired in 2013 after many dedicated years. Vince lived the American Dream because of his vigorous work ethic and desire to provide for his family.

Vince enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be in his garden, on the water as captain of his boat, or out on the golf course swinging his clubs. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing and tending to everything from zucchini and other vegetables to grapes, figs and beautiful flowers. He often used the fruits of this labor of love to prepare delicious Italian cuisine he gladly shared with family and friends. Bowling was another favorite activity, and Vince relished the 2 perfect games he achieved.

Above all, Vince was committed to his family. He adored and respected his wife, treating her like a queen. As evidence of the unconditional love they shared, he rarely let go of her hand. Vince was a great provider for his family and never expected or wanted anything in return. He was a proud grandfather and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Vince is survived by his cherished wife Nancy; his children, Vince (Diane) Candela, Dino (Vicki) Candela, Darren (Danielle) Candela, Maria (Derrick) Young, and Paul (Jenny) Candela; his grandchildren, Nico, Pearson, Jade, Madison, Lia, Desmond, Rosa, Sophie, Carly, and Sicily; his brother Frank (Chris) Candela; his niece Marianne “Gucci” (Dave) Smelewski; his great niece Joy, and his great nephew Evan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rosa Candela and his nephew Mikey Candela.
