Ulinda St. Lawrence
Age 84, a lifelong resident of Northville, passed away suddenly April 5, 2023. She was born on April 24, 1938 in Northville, Michigan at Sessions Hospital; daughter of Charles R. and Margaret (Tank) Ely. Ulinda attended Northville High School, class of 1955. She was united in marriage to William R. St. Lawrence on October 31, 1954; devoted to each other for over 67 years until his death February 25, 2022.
Ulinda was a dedicated homemaker, a job she took seriously. She was constantly there for her family and was always involved in their lives. When her children were grown, she became a hands-on racehorse owner taking care of everything but training and driving. Over time she successfully owned six harness racehorses that mostly raced at Northville Downs, Hazel Park Raceway, and various State Fairs throughout Michigan. Years ago, she meticulously maintained the property where the Northville Downs horses were boarded and safely orchestrated the horse path from the property to the Downs. Ulinda supported her family anyway she could; helped one of her sons by working at the local Farmer’s Markets selling his organic soy skin care products and soy candles. Along with her amazing work ethic, she had an incredible mind for finances. Ulinda was the bookkeeper of Northville Cabinet and Tile in the 1980’s. She was also the lead negotiator on the sale of the St. Lawrence property, a credit she deserves.
Ulinda loved to spend time during her favorite season under the hot sun maintaining her beautiful garden beds. She enjoyed watching Fox News and liked sharing her political opinions. Ulinda created gorgeous quilts and sewed curtains and tablecloths for her family. She loved all animals; her family always had a dog in the home. She was a very special “Mama Bear” and was attentive to getting things done. Ulinda was a selfless, dedicated, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Ulinda is survived by her children, Mike (Dora Purcell) St. Lawrence, Molly St. Lawrence, and Marty (Shari) St. Lawrence; her sister-in-law Phyllis Ely; her grandchildren, Jim Esparza, Rachel Esparza, Anthony Bartek, and William Bartek; and her great grandchildren, Macey, Braden, Margaret, Tyler, and Zachery. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
