Timothy E. Mclaughlin

September 16, 1964 — May 12, 2023

Timothy E. McLaughlin, age 58, recently moved to Canton from Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully at home May 12, 2023. He was born on September 16, 1964 in Detroit, Michigan, son of William and Janet (Lemaster) McLaughlin. He grew up in Northville and graduated from Northville High School, class of 1982.  Following high school, he attended Michigan State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Tim had many successful careers over the course of his life and was well respected in the workforce.  He lived and worked in Nashville and Memphis, TN for most of his life before moving to Greenville, SC and then Valencia, CA. He worked for TCi, a subsidiary of Michelin, before taking a position with ABM in Atlanta.   Promoted throughout the years, Tim retired as Senior Vice President of Global Accounts in 2019.

Tim was a devoted Catholic, attending Mass at St. William Parish in Walled Lake. Sports also played a significant role in Tim’s life.  In high school, he was a star athlete achieving All-State honors in football and all-area in basketball, as well as being honored as athlete of the year for Northville High School in 1982.  He later served as the Varsity Offensive Coordinator for NHS football and coached his son in youth football.  As his love of sports continued, he attended and watched as many sporting events as he could, especially Michigan State Spartan football and basketball games.

Tim was an avid racing fan. As a child he drew and designed race cars. As an adult, he loved IndyCar racing and attended many races including the Indianapolis 500.  He enjoyed driving in general, whether it was a scenic drive to nowhere in particular or in a high-performance car on a track.

Tim was a lifelong U2 fan and attended as many concerts as he could all over the US.  He met the band in a chance meeting at a hotel bar in Washington DC when he was in town to see their show. He shared his love of music with his son, taking him to his first U2 concert at age 3.  A world traveler, Tim traveled extensively through Europe, all over the United States, and visited many locations in South America and Mexico.  Tim was a history buff, especially of anything war-related, and the Civil War in particular.  He was a voracious reader and preferred books on military history, politics, and sports.   Considering himself a foodie, Tim was a fantastic cook and had a very precise method for grilling steak that was not to be messed with.

Tim’s greatest joy in life came from his son, family, and close circle of lifelong friends. Tim was a beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Tim is survived by his loving son, Patrick McLaughlin; his stepson, Nicholas (Maddie) McClorey; his brothers, Michael (Maria) McLaughlin, Patrick (Anne) McLaughlin, and Sean (Roxanne) McLaughlin; his former bride, Michele McLaughlin; his best friends, Tim (Marisa) McClorey and Tim (Deborah) Wagner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
