Shirley A. Brokas

November 20, 1934 — March 10, 2020

The Brokas family truly appreciates your thoughts and prayers. For public safety and concern, they have chosen to change the funeral service from a public service to a private service. This was not an easy decision to make but they would like to thank you for your understanding.

Shirley A. Brokas, age 85 of Plymouth, passed away on March 10, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 20, 1934; daughter of Julius and Sophie (nee Huegel) Saner. Shirley was united in marriage to Zenonas “Chuck” Brokas; devoted to each other for 59 years until his death in 2016. A lifelong resident of Plymouth, she graduated in 1952 from Plymouth High School. Shirley worked in the loan processing department at the National Bank of Detroit. She retired in 1989 at the age of 55.

Shirley loved watching the Detroit Tigers and in her younger years liked to go bowling. She enjoyed spending time working in her gardens, both floral and vegetable. Bird watching, jigsaw puzzles and cross word puzzles were among some of her favorite hobbies.

With a positive attitude and a happy personality, Shirley was the perfect role model. She treasured her family vacations and kept in touch with grandchildren via email and sharing photos on her iPad. Shirley crafted many birthday cards and holiday cards throughout the years and enjoyed knowing the joy her creations brought to her family. Her family was the most important aspect of her life.

She is survived by her children, Debbie (Brian) Blackney, Judy (Dan) Lybarger, and Gary (Laura) Brokas; her sister Madeline (Avery) Penney; her grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff) Ozanich, Lisa (Tim Brachulis) Blackney, Rachel Blackney, Candi (Chris) Powell, Sara Lybarger, Michael (Maureen) Lybarger, Jason (Sarah) Lybarger, Jacquelyn (Adam) Zoldak, and Nicole Brokas; and her great grandchildren, Colin, Chase, Mia, Cody, Sam, Audrey, Claire, Isaac, Nora, Patrick, and Jason. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Sophie Balko, Emily Casterline, Matilda “Tillie” Schultz, and Julius Saner.                                        .
