Sherrie J. Olszewski
Age 51, of Detroit, passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2022. She was born on January 10, 1971 in Wayne, Michigan; daughter of Jimmy J. Olszewski and Jean E. White. Sherrie grew up in Whitmore Lake and graduated from Whitmore Lake High School in the class of 1989. She continued her education at Washtenaw Community College.
Sherrie’s family bred and raised Arabian horses. Growing up she dedicated her time to learn how to train and ride horses, competing locally, regionally, and nationally. Sherrie won the Regional Championship which qualified her to compete in the National Championship in Canada. At the young age of 14, Sherrie won the National Championship in the Amateur Owner to Ride English Pleasure division. She also competed at the US Nationals where she placed in the top 10 Arabian Native Costume. While in high school, Sherrie excelled in sports, especially track and basketball.
She had a group of dedicated friends who she cared deeply about. She treasured the time she spent with her friend Terry from daily talks to surprise birthday parties and an adventurous trip to Florida. Sherrie’s friend, Jerry, took her in and gave her a home when she needed it the most. Her friends were incredible, and her family is very thankful for the love and support they gave Sherrie over the years. This past summer while recovering from surgery, Sherrie moved in with her mom for 1½ weeks and her mom was able to nurture her like she did when she was a child. There was so much appreciation and love shared between a mother and daughter because of that week. She called her mom weekly just to check in. She would finish the call with I love you mom, please tell Marv I love him. Sherrie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Sherrie is survived by her mother and stepfather, Jean and Marvin Humrich. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Sherrie was preceded in death by her father Jimmy J. Olszewski and her brother James Daniel Olszewski. A private family ceremony will be held. She will be laid to rest by her father and brother in Rural Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries , 150 Stimson Street, Detroit, MI 48201.
