Shayla D. Rachelle, age 78, of Novi, formerly of Farmington, passed away on July 4, 2024. She was born March 11, 1946 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Shayla graduated from Mt. Clemens High School and continued her education at Marygrove College in Detroit where she earned a bachelor's degree. She went on to earn a master’s degree in education from Eastern Michigan University.
Shayla worked as a reading specialist for several districts in the area. Wanting to make a difference in her students’ lives, she preferred small group lessons and one-on-one teaching. As a seeker of knowledge and dedicated educator, Shayla sought to instill the love of learning in her students.
Shayla was very spiritual and found inspiration in the world around her, from watching Joel Osteen give a sermon to being in tune with nature, she lived her life to the fullest. She relished the peace and tranquility of being one with nature and spending time at Camp Dearborn and local metro parks. Shayla found joy in a quiet morning at home drinking coffee, watching and listening to the wildlife and nature around her. She kept the birds and squirrels that frequented her backyard well fed and happy. Continuing her love of the outdoors, Shayla enjoyed hiking, canoeing, and skiing. As a member of the Silver Strings music club in Livonia, she was a talented musician and beautifully played the piano, hammered dulcimer, and guitar. Shayla was a world traveler and visited destinations all across Europe. She was a thoughtful, friendly, and sweet lady with a bubbly personality who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Shayla leaves behind her dear friends, Audrey, Janet, Jane, Val, Kathy and Phil, Jim, Lisa, and Petsie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Michigan Humane , 2937 E. Grand Blvd., Suite 800, Detroit, MI 48202 would be appreciated.
