Samuel J. Azar

November 10, 1925 — March 28, 2020

Samuel J. Azar, age 94, longtime resident of Northville, passed away March 28, 2020. He was born November 10, 1925 in Winchester, Kentucky; son of James and Nabeeha (nee Fakhoury) Azar.  Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

He was an assembly line worker for General Motors for 28 years; he retired in 1987. During his retirement he enjoyed going to casinos and traveling to Las Vegas at least 4 times a year.  He liked to roll the dice and play craps. In his younger years he spent his free time bowling and fishing. Samuel also enjoyed watching baseball and football. He was a fun-loving uncle; the time he spent with his nieces and nephews are cherished memories. Samuel was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his twin brother Mitchell J. Azar; 5 nieces and nephews; more than 20 great nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Daniel Azar, and his sister Sadie Pederson.

The family will be receiving visitors by invitation only on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. A private service will follow. Father Teodor Petrutiu will officiate the service. Samuel will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Detroit.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the American Foundation for the Blind , 1401 South Clark Street, Suite 730, Arlington, VA 22202.

Please be advised that in observance of the governmental order from the State of Michigan, we will be limiting funeral/visitation gatherings to 10 people at any one time. When in attendance, we kindly ask, for the safety and well-being of the families we serve and for your health, that everyone practice social distancing.
