Ruth Marie Barker

Age 84, passed away of natural causes on January 30, 2023. Born at home in the small community of Karlin, Michigan on December 13, 1938; daughter of Dallas and Vlasta (Spilka) Stickney. She moved to the Farmington Hills area as a young girl and graduated from Clarenceville High School, class of 1957. Following graduation, she spent many years working in customer service before raising a family.

Ruth adopted her three children and was also a foster mother to several children through the years. She adored children; often babysitting for her neighbors and friends. Because of her wonderful, caring demeanor she was referred to others in the surrounding community to babysit.

She loved being a ‘hockey mom’ throughout the years that her boys were in local hockey leagues. She had a deep love for her grandchildren and spent as much time with them as she could.  Ruth was loved by all who met her and was known for her caring, friendly, and loyal personality. Most of all she was a selfless woman and devoted herself to others.

Ruth is survived by her children, Rick Barker, Beth (Norm) Hoydic, and William (Melanie) Barker, D.O.; her grandchildren, Jeremy Frey, Rachel Frey, Madelyn Barker, and Emily Barker; her brother Ken Stickney; and her sisters, Lois Edwards and Maxine (Dave) Delauder, 2 nieces, a nephew and many grand nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law Steve Edwards.

Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 from 11am until Noon with a memorial service beginning at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association , 25200 Telegraph Rd. #100, Southfield, MI 48033.
