Ruth Ann Evans

Ruth A. Evans age 94, of Novi, formerly a longtime resident of Dearborn, passed away peacefully April 14, 2019. She was born on September 4, 1924 in Mendon, Ohio; daughter of James and Myrtle (nee Beougher) Dutton. Ruth was united in marriage to Frederick W. Evan on August 17, 1947; they spent 22 years devoted to one another as husband and wife until his death in 1969.

Ruth graduated from Mendon High School in Mendon, Ohio; Class of 1942.  She continued her education at Findlay College where she was a double major in social science and math with a minor in physical education.  She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Findlay College in 1947 and earned a master’s degree in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1973.  Ruth worked as a special education teacher for cognitively impaired students at Dearborn Public Schools, she retired in 1987.

Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church in Northville; she was active with the church and served as a Stephen Minister.  She was also a life member of Northville Women’s Club.  Ruth liked to stay active by playing golf and tennis.  She was very creative and enjoyed taking jewelry making classes in Franklin, Michigan.  She also enjoyed the challenge of completing 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles.  Ruth was a devoted homemaker and a wonderful cook.  Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her family and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her loving children, Kristen (Bruce) Voelker, Lynne (Todd) Mossoian, and Fred (Mary) Evans; her siblings, Mary Ellen Strupp and Jim (Pat) Dutton; her grandchildren, Adreinne Voelker, Kyle (Julie) Voelker, Morgan (Adam) Jeffrey, and Spencer Mossoian; and her great grandchildren, Kevin, Maeve, Tallulah, Adeline, and Brody.

Private family services were held.  She was laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Ohio. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the First United Methodist Church , 777 West 8 Mile Road, Northville, MI 48167.
