Ronald W. McCurdy
Age 81, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 26, 2022. He was born on August 31, 1940 in North English, Iowa; son of Melvin and Phyllis (Morris) McCurdy. Ronald was united in marriage to Sherrie J. Hogan on February 3, 1968; they spent 54 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Born and raised in Iowa, Ronald graduated Valedictorian from Jewell High School in Jewell, Iowa; Class of 1958 where he played basketball and was voted prom king. Following high school, he attended Iowa State University before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country as an Aviation Cadet and was stationed in Waco, Texas. Upon his release from active duty, Ronald earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from University of Iowa, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Starting from a very young age, Ronald was a very hard worker. He had many jobs throughout his life, before settling on his career with Ford Motor Company. Ronald retired as Senior Competitive Analysis US Controller's Office in 2002, after 33 years with the company. While at Ford, he developed a pricing system.
When setting the price of a vehicle, Ford must understand how much the equipment/features on it are worth and what the cost to the customer would be. Mr. McCurdy created a detailed and comprehensive model by comparing prices from all automotive manufacturers. Using this data, a standard value and price Ford could charge for the specific equipment was determined. The model is still maintained and used today as the standard for all equipment pricing. No pricing decision for a current model or new product is made without referring to it. The model is referred to as the McCurdy Model.
Ron was a true car guy, throughout his life he owned 73 different cars and kept a list with each make, model, and color of all of them. It was the 1967 Mustang on that list he was driving when he met the love of his life; he later sold that car for a larger one to accommodate his growing family. Ronald was a NASCAR fan and an avid reader of auto magazines. He liked to spend time in nature; hiking, biking, walking his dogs, he also enjoyed competing in archery at a younger age. Ron also was very particular about his yard and was always mowing the grass. His greatest joy in life was his family; he loved spending time with them and especially adored his grandchildren. Known as “Papa” he cherished the time he spent with his grandkids at the park, reading books, and watching children’s programming. Ron was happy to sit with them on his lap as long as they would stay. As they grew, he loved spending time with family at his cottage in Brighton boating, taking them tubing, and waterskiing. Incredibly patriotic, he visited almost every single state in the United States and every national monument and presidential home he could. Ron’s friends and family meant everything to him. He had a group of friends from high school that he kept in touch with over the years that were very important to him. Always putting everyone else first, Ron was a true gentleman, cared deeply for those around him, and exuded kindness. Ron was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend; he will be missed by all who loved him.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Sherrie J. McCurdy; his daughters, Kimberly McCurdy and Lisa (Rob) McPhee; his grandchildren, Tyler, Rylan, Sierra, and Maya; his siblings, Janette Kelly and William (Jolene) McCurdy; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Phyllis (Andy) Zarzour, sister-in-law Joyce Spencer, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
