Rolland L. Stapleton

January 5, 1944 — June 19, 2020

Rolland L. Stapleton, age 76, Northville, passed away on June 19, 2020. He was born on January 5, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan; son of LeRoy and Gertrude (nee Jeroue) Stapleton.  Rolland graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1962. He worked in construction management for over 50 years including 15 years at Walbridge.  His works include the People Mover in Detroit, renovation of Michigan Opera House, and he had always hoped to include renovating Michigan Grand Central Depot.

Rolland had an unquenched thirst for knowledge and books, fascinated by modern history, especially WWII, military, and political history.  Leaving college early to support his family after his father’s premature death, he enjoyed working on cars and was fascinated by airplanes and locomotives.  Ships, planes, and trains were often the subjects of his photography.  He was interested in political movements and a very staunch democrat.  Rolland was correct 100% of the time, although he would tell you that was a low average.  He fondly turned 39 each year on his birthday, although eventually conceding to 39 and a half.  As a young man, he enjoyed playing basketball and football.  Rolland loved dogs and rescued many furry companions throughout his life.

Rolland is survived by his loving children, Steph (Johanne) and Ted; his former wife Mary and his siblings John (June) Russell, Sr. and Lynn.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his namesake, Uncle Rolland.
