Robert B. Fair, Jr., age 92, longtime resident of Northville, passed away March 29, 2020. He was born January 17, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Robert B. and Edith Elizabeth (nee Pugsley) Fair, Sr. He graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit; Class of 1945. Robert continued his education at Detroit Institute of Technology where he earned a BBA with a major in accounting. He proudly served his country in the Army of the United States as a Corporal. Robert was united in marriage to June C. Ecclestone for 29 years until her death in 1978. He was blessed to find love again with Katheryn Borgsdorf; they married and spent 35 years together until her death in 2014
Robert worked for General Motors as an administrator of finance and personnel for the industry and government relations staff. He retired in 1988 after 35 years with the company. Robert was very active in the community and with many civic organizations. In 1982, he was honored by General Motors with the Distinguished Community Service Award. There were numerous groups and organizations he selflessly gave his time to, his service included; Salvation Army, chairperson of Denby Advisory Council, Metro Detroit Advisory Board, President of the Redford Kiwanis club, Treasurer of both the Redford Kiwanis and the Novi South Kiwanis Clubs, Kiwanis Club of Michigan Lt. Governor Division 1, and Chairman Committee on Resolutions, Administration, and Youth Services. He was also very active with the Royal Arch Masons; Northville Union Chapter 55 where he was High Priest and Treasurer, and Knights Templar Northville Commandery 39. He was a member of Meadowbrook Congregational Church in Novi. Robert was very active with the church and served on several committees, including chairman of the finance committee, audit committee, board of trustees, secretary of the music board, as well as lay leader and liturgist.
Robert enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. He loved music, singing, and dancing. Robert often showcased he and his family in local talent shows. In his youth he played the trombone. He was an avid baseball fan and always rooted for the Detroit Tigers.
Robert is survived by his loving children, Nancy (Robert) Deipert, John (Cheri) Fair, Julie (Andy) Bauman, and Judy (Dave) Postma; his stepsons, Charles (Linda) Borgsdorf and Del (Sherry) Borgsdorf; his grandchildren, Patrick (Jeannie) Freeman, John (Christina) Fair, Anne Fair, Andrew (Erika) Postma, Lauren Postma. Seven step-grandchildren: Michael (Elizabeth) Borgsdorf, David (Lisa) Borgsdorf, Ronald (Thai-An) Kimmons, Stephen (Amanda) Borgsdorf, Douglas Borgsdorf, Kimberly (Steve) Lopez plus several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife June C. Fair, his second wife Katheryn Borgsdorf, his parents, and his sister Patricia Wyneken.
