Robert Thomas Bloom, 76, a resident of Northville for over 31 years, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on October 31, 2024. He was born on June 27, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan; son of Richard and Marian (Eden) Bloom. Bob, as he was known by his family and friends, graduated from Southfield High School, class of 1966. He continued his education at Oakland University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration. Robert was united in marriage to Sandra L. Allen on December 19, 1982; spending over 41 years devoted to their love.
Bob was an entrepreneur from the start. While still in school, he launched a lawn care business and played the accordion at special events. After graduating, he spent a decade with the United States Postal Service before moving into a successful career in sales within the computer and technology industry. During his time in Cedar Rapids, Bob worked in sales for Norand Technologies, and upon returning to Michigan, he became the Director of Sales at Symbol Technologies. Even in retirement, he stayed active through contract sales, keeping himself busy and engaged in work he loved.
Bob served in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 20 years. He dedicated countless hours protecting the Michigan waterways. He was a man of remarkable talents and passions. An avid golfer, he could often be found on the course, playing in two leagues and enjoying every round. He loved being on the water and, for a time, ran "Bob’s Boat" in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Bob also enjoyed snow skiing and made sure to teach his children at a young age. Musically gifted, he played the piano, accordion, and banjo, filling his life and others’ with music. He was a dedicated reader and had a knack for telling delightfully terrible jokes that always brought laughter.
His adventures took him around the world, most recently boating along the Colorado River with his wife and dear friends. He was a natural adventurer, sailing through the British Virgin Islands, and dancing whenever he could. A master at the grill, Bob was known for his legendary ribs, perfectly complemented by Sandy’s sides as they worked seamlessly together in the kitchen. Bob was a caring friend, a devoted family man, and someone who gave generously to those around him. His loyalty, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his children, Jessica (Scott) Manis and Robby (Diana Zhou-Bloom) Bloom; his grandchildren Christopher “Kit”, Calliope, and Veronica; his brother Richard (Connie) Bloom; and his sister Darlene Bloom. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Nancy Johnson and Linda Lewandowski.
