Richard James Selinske

Richard J. Selinske, age 97, of Northville, passed away December 11, 2018.  He was born on July 23, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Frank and Mary (nee Brueske) Selinske.  He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.  Richard was born and raised in Detroit the youngest of 9 children.  Richard married Elizabeth J. Walls on June 8, 1955; they were devoted to each other for over 63 years.

Richard was a 1939 graduate of St. Leo’s High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Detroit Mercy.  He worked as a Chemical Engineer with Ford Motor Company for over 30 years; he retired in 1984.  Richard loved to golf and enjoyed bowling; playing in numerous leagues for both sports over the years. He liked to travel extensively throughout the United States; among his favorite trips were an Alaskan Cruise and visiting the Hawaiian Islands. Richard was very particular about his yard and home, keeping both neat and organized. He was a great record keeper and still has his stats from Army baseball games he played in. Richard adored his family and loved spending time with them.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Janet (Ronald) Plawecki, Julie (John) Awkerman, and Nancy (James) Biel; his grandchildren, Bryan (Aimee) Plawecki, Steven (Erin) Plawecki, Brandon Awkerman, Jason Awkerman, Kathryn (Evan) Slawski and Jennifer Biel; and his great grandson Cayden Plawecki. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 brothers, and 6 sisters.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 from 10am until 11:30am with a funeral service beginning at 11:30am at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Following the service military honors will be performed.  Mr. Selinske will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
