Richard J. Lemke
Age 83, of Northville, passed away on November 10, 2022. He was born April 4, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Raymond and Florence (Casey) Lemke. Richard was united in marriage to the love of his life, Maggie “Peggy” Murray on March 7, 1970; they were devoted to one another for over 52 years.
Richard grew up in Detroit and raised his family in Dearborn. He graduated from Catholic Central High School, class of 1957. He formed deep bonds with many of his classmates and they continued their friendship for many years. Richard worked as a Sales Specialist with Northland Marketing; he retired in 1990. After he retired, he worked at Joe Louis Arena as a bartender for 20 years.
Richard was a member of Divine Child Men’s Club. He was an avid fisherman, an activity he began with his father. Richard loved sports and was a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed travelling, especially to Ireland. He appreciated the wonderful memories made during his travels.
Richard was a true gentleman and was very social. He and his wife cherished the time they spent with family and friends. They were well known at Stella’s in Plymouth and the Wagon Wheel in Northville, frequently spending time there with friends. Richard was kind and funny, never in a rush and always laidback. He was proud of his grandchildren and supported all their endeavors. Richard brought his own sunshine wherever he went and was truly happy. He kept his keen sense of humor and kindness throughout his struggle over the last 8 months. Richard is a man that many will miss.
He is survived by his wife Peggy; his daughters, Mary (Craig) Garnett and Andrea (Jonathan) Gohl; his sister Betsy (Bill) Conroy; and his grandchildren, Ashley, Grace, Maggie, Aidan, and Ryan. Richard is also loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mary Ann Braun, Nancy Wagner, and Christine McAllister.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 13, 2022 from Noon until 6pm with a Rosary beginning at 5pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10:30am, instate at 10am at St. James Catholic Church, 46325 West 10 Mile Road, Novi. He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.
