Raymond H. Jenkins, age 82 a longtime resident of Northville, passed away on December 2, 2019. He was born on September 22, 1937 in Missionary Ridge, Tennessee; son of Herbert and Essie (Franklin) Jenkins. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1960. He was united in marriage to Myrna J. Jenkins on March 25, 1961; devoted to each other until her death on April 16, 2016.
Uncle Ray, as everyone knew him, was an inventor and entrepreneur. In 1965 he started his business ventures; inventing and selling a chip dip product from his Dodge Dart to local bars and restaurants. In 1983 he founded Cabana Potato Chips and purchased a building in Detroit. In 1997 he started Uncle Ray's Potato Chips that is still in business today. He dedicated his life to growing the business until he sold in 2006. Uncle Ray continued working at the company for 9 years after it was sold. He was an active disciple of Jesus Christ and led many to believe through the chip business. He used the chip bags to preach and tell his story. Uncle Ray was a very hard worker. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling with his family. He was an active member of his church serving as a Deacon for 30 years. He was a past member of the Masons. Uncle Ray was truly loved by his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his children, Jennifer (Howard) Sweet, Sandra Jenkins, and Raymond (Lisa) Jenkins II; his siblings, Frances Hurst, Shirley (Bob) Qualls, and Matthew Jenkins; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Alyson, Ava, Shannon, Sean, Raymond, Noah, and Ricky. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his siblings, Veronica Takis, Bob Jenkins, and Darlene Lesniewski.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 6, 2019 from 1pm until 6pm with a Funeral Service beginning at 6pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to Detroit Goodfellows, PO Box 44444, Detroit, MI 48244.
