Phillip Lacolla

July 16, 1950 — April 20, 2024

Phillip LaColla, age 73, of Northville, passed away on April 20, 2024 after a brave fight against cancer. He was born July 16, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan; son of Charles and Zena (Mamone) LaColla. He grew up and raised his family on the Eastside, living in Sterling Heights, Macomb Township, and Warren before moving to Northville in 2016.

After graduating from Warren Wood High School in 1968, Phil enrolled at Macomb Community College to continue his education. Phil was united in marriage to Josie Gerardi on September 10, 1977; dedicated to each other for over 46 years.

Throughout his life, Phil was known for his strong work ethic. Following college, he took on a factory job at Trec Teck while juggling multiple jobs to provide for his growing family. In 1999, Phil shifted gears and began working as a dealer at MGM Casino. Thanks to his determination, he eventually earned the prestigious position of Pit Boss. Phil's latest job was as a server and baker at Genitti’s Hole-in-the Wall in downtown Northville, where he formed many friendships.

Phil selflessly devoted his life to others, consistently placing their needs before his own. As a loving caretaker, he spent the final years caring for his mother, exemplifying unwavering dedication to his family. Phil's love was boundless and unconditional, with his family holding paramount importance. He embraced his role as a grandfather wholeheartedly, constantly seeking to be with his grandchildren and serving as an exceptional role model.

Phil's expertise in the kitchen was undeniable, evident in the delectable Italian dishes he effortlessly prepared. Yet, his culinary talents extended beyond personal enjoyment as he generously shared his baking skills and Instant Pot knowledge to support others. Knowing Phil was a genuine gift; he had a remarkable ability to both attentively listen and engage in captivating conversations. His contagious laughter and radiant smile brought joy to all, and his witty sense of humor will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. Phil exemplified love, care, and devotion as a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, enriching the lives of those around him with his warmth and compassion.

Phil is survived by his wife Josie; his children, Zena Catalano, Charles LaColla, and Phillip LaColla; his brothers, Steve (Angie) LaColla and Charles LaColla; and his grandchildren, Salina, Leonardo, and Gia Catalano. He is also loved by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law Tony Catalano.
