Penelope S. Nuechterlein, age 75, of Northville, passed away October 21, 2019 from complications related to her battle with cancer. She was born October 6, 1944 in Bay City Michigan; daughter of Hamilton and Clara (Fischer) Pennell. Penny grew up in Bay City, Michigan with her parents and 5 siblings. On July 30, 1966, she married Ronald R. Nuechterlein and they spent 47 wonderful years together.
Penny attended both Delta College and Central Michigan University where she graduated with honors earning her teaching degree, later going to on to obtain her master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University. She has always had a passion for teaching and spent most of her 25 year career at Pioneer middle school in the nearby Plymouth Canton School District.
Penny has enjoyed living in Northville for the last 46 years and was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church volunteering in many ways. She enjoyed cooking and baking for church activities as well as her 4 cookie/brownie loving grandchildren on a regular basis. At family events, she was known for making great Bernthal bacon topped salads which she was often summoned to bring. One of Penny’s favorite places was their cottage in Trout Lake in the Upper Peninsula. She could often be found lakeside with a good book, as she was an avid reader. Penny loved her family and friends and enjoyed the time she spent with them whether at the cottage or dinners at their home in Northville. She could often be found at art fairs and pottery shows with family and friends. Penny was deeply cherished as an awesome grandmother, and always loved to spend time and spoil her grandkids every chance she got.
Penny is survived by her children Wendy (Michael) Ripper and Mike (Kerri) Nuechterlein; her brother, Tim (Lois) Pennell; sister in law, Mary Pennell; brother in law, Gene Niedzwiecki; and her grandchildren Veronica, Keegan, Mikayla and Ben. Penelope was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald R. Nuechterlein, her parents, siblings Beverly (Carl) Doan, Sharon (Gary) Bishop, Terry Pennell, and Mary Niedzwiecki.
Her visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 201 Elm Street, Northville.
