Pat (Vashti) Thomas
Age 98, of Northville, passed away November 30, 2020. She was born on January 31, 1922 in
Hopewell, Virginia; daughter of Robert Lee and Maude (nee Thompson) Baker. After
graduating from Hopewell High School in 1939 she continued her education at Secretarial
School. Pat was united in marriage to Joseph Thomas on May 3, 1945; married for 61 years
until he died in 2006. She began her married life in Dearborn in 1945 then moved to Northville
in 1989. Pat was a snowbird for 30 years wintering in Sarasota, Florida.
Pat worked as a clerk in the credit department at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1980. She
was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Northville and a member of the
Dearborn Questers. She had a wide circle of friends and loved playing bridge, euchre, and mahjong with them. Pat’s social calendar was always full between playing cards and going to restaurants with friends. She enjoyed playing golf and traveling. Pat enjoyed watching the local sports teams including the Detroit Tigers, MSU Spartans and following her favorite golf professionals. She followed fashion trends and was always stylishly dressed. Pat was an independent, strong, funny, and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Pat is survived by her children, Joseph (Gail) Thomas and Jill Carn-Thomas; her
grandchildren, Jenna (Terry) Ryan, Amanda (Chris) Guenther, Liz (Dave) Lillie, John Thomas,
Timothy (Jessica) Carn, Steven (Katie) Carn, Alyssa (Trammell) Lynch, and Joseph (Sarah
Hinrichs) Thomas; and her great grandchildren, Rylee, Camryn, Wyatt, Caiden, Katherine, and
Hollis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Judy Hath-
Rankin, and her brothers, Robert Lee Baker and Glynn Baker.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 11:30am at Acacia Park
Cemetery, 31300 Southfield Road, Beverly Hills, MI 48025. Rev. Douglas Vernon will officiate
the service. A Celebration of her Life will be planned at a later date when it is safer to travel.
