Oscar G. Gago, Jr.
Age 54, of Smyrna, Georgia, passed away on December 28, 2021. He was born on October 24, 1967 in Caracas, Venezuela; son of Oscar G. Gago, Sr. and Lourdes T. Itriago. He was united in marriage to Eileen M. Archer on April 19, 2008, spending over 13 years married and devoted to their love together for 21 years.
Oscar attended primary school in Venezuela, after emigrating to the United States he attended Schoolcraft College where he earned an associates in culinary arts. He continued his education at Washtenaw Community College and transferred to Eastern Michigan University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management. Oscar worked as the Director of Operations and in Food and Beverage with Hyatt for 19 years. Recently he took a position with the Country Club of the South as the Director of Food and Beverage.
Oscar was an avid golfer. As a perk of working in the hotel industry, he and his wife were able to share amazing vacations to many bucket list destinations. Oscar enjoyed spending time outdoors and riding his bike. No matter where he called home, Oscar found a trail to ride that brought him closer to nature. One of he and his wife’s favorites was the Silver Comet Trail. Oscar was a U of M Football fan and loved to attend games with cousins who lived in Ann Arbor. He adored his family and cherished the time he spent with both immediate and extended family. Oscar was full of life and very social; he was loved by many. He shared a special relationship with his wife, they had a great marriage along with a wonderful friendship. Oscar will be truly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Eileen; his daughter Kelly (Hans Stephensen) Archer-Stephensen; his son Patrick (Erin) Archer; his grandchildren, Arabella, Jameson, Sophie & Charlie; his mother Lourdes Itriago de Gago; his siblings, Tomas (Maria Eugenia) Gago, Carlos (Eliana) Gago, Eduardo Gago, and Maria Enriqueta Gago; his sister-in-law Sandy Grady and his brother-in-law Frank (Sue) Costello. Oscar was also loved by his uncle Otto and aunt Lourdes, cousins, many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father and his brother-in-law Brian Costello.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 from 4pm until 7pm with a funeral service beginning at 7pm at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville, Michigan. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11am at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, 25800 West 10 Mile Road, Southfield, Michigan. Pastor Scott Crownover will officiate the service.
