Nancy C. Lannom, age 88, passed away on June 6, 2024. Nancy has been a resident of Novi for the past 24 years after moving into the home her grandfather built in 1938. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 25, 1936; daughter of Arthur and Faith (McCollum) Hoge. Nancy was united in marriage to Newman Duffner on September 7th, 1981; they spent 43 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Nancy grew up in Redford and graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit; class of 1954. Following high school, she attended Wayne State University and later Siena Heights University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
Nancy was a devoted homemaker, creating a loving and warm environment for her family on their farm in the Irish Hills. During that period in her life, she was the proud owner of a health food store and consignment boutique in Brooklyn, MI. She later went to work for Wayne County Friend of the Court as a supervisor who reported directly to the comptroller. For close to 20 years, Nancy oversaw the budget for judges and courts before retiring in the late 90’s. A deeply caring individual whose compassion was evident in her professional and personal life, she dedicated herself to supporting her children and caring for her ailing parents.
Nancy was a master gardener who cultivated beautiful and bountiful gardens filled with vibrant flowers and a wide variety of vegetables. Her gardening skills and passion for horticulture were traits learned from her grandfather, Andrew McCollum, with whom she had a close relationship. Known as the family record keeper, Nancy was an avid genealogist who meticulously researched her family history, tracing her ancestry back to the mid-1800s. She maintained and identified relatives in a vast photo collection which has provided a detailed legacy for future generations. A lifelong learner, Nancy embraced a broad range of knowledge and ideas. Highly intelligent and eclectic, her curiosity and open-mindedness led her to explore beyond conventional theories, continually seeking deeper understanding and new perspectives. Nancy enjoyed crocheting and lovingly shared her handmade creations with family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing, especially envisioning the design as well as the planning stages of the project. Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Newman Duffner; her children, Dan Lannom, Matt Lannom, and Laura Shelp; her stepchildren, Evelyn Duffner, Frank (JoAnn) Duffner, Sally (John) Pondell, and Jonathon Duffner; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and her sister Karen (Dave) Kurtz.
