Following a three-year battle with cancer, Nancy Elizabeth Fischer peacefully entered our Savior’s arms while surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home on October 26 th , 2020. Her full devotion to the Lord and constant support from a loving family gave her strength, comfort, endurance, and peace throughout her long struggle. Her favorite Bible verse was Exodus 14:14 – “The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still. ” (NIV)
Nancy was born in Detroit to Wayne and Alice Aho, attended Cooley High School, Thurston High School and graduated from Western Michigan University. Nancy taught high school business in Ohio and Michigan, then 20 years of Title I and special education for Livonia Public Schools, once her family had grown.
Nancy was a godly woman who had personally experienced God’s life-changing love. She left a legacy of Christian family living for generations to come. Her love for God, His creation and people was evident in all she did. Whether it was the regular “G&G Adventures” and overnights with the grandchildren, camping at over 30 national parks and collecting heart rocks along the way or creating the annual “Snowflake Party” and the “Easter Time Machine” event for church outreach…it all reflected loving God and sharing it with others. Nancy wanted all to know that her passing from this life is to be a time of rejoicing and excitement. She looked forward to the day she would meet her Savior, Jesus, face-to-face and desired everyone to know the confidence, assurance and peace available through a faith in Him.
Nancy is survived by her husband Gary; sister and her husband, Ilona and Don Monteith of Charlevoix; daughter and her husband, Erin and Tony Facione; sons and their wives, Tom and Ang and Bill and Liz Fischer; and 12 grandchildren: Joshua, Levi, Kaitlyn, Emet, Meira, Abby, Ellie, Bradley, Cayden, Joel, Gianna and Christian.
A memorial celebration will be held at Salem Bible Church on November 21, 2020 at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow.
