Molly E. Johnson
Age 38, of Westland formerly of Canton and Telluride, Colorado, passed away on January 17, 2023. She was born on February 1, 1984 in Southfield, Michigan; daughter of Garry Johnson and Lou (Fisher) Sommermann.
Molly graduated from Plymouth-Salem High School; Class of 2002. Following high school, she continued her education at Schoolcraft College where she earned an associate degree in Culinary Arts so she could create beauty as a pastry chef. Molly then graduated in the top of her class as a certified medical assistant with the goal of helping people. Building on that goal, she later became a certified massage therapist so she could help make people feel better.
Molly was incredibly brave and constantly evolving and reinventing herself. She moved to Telluride, Colorado for seven years where she worked as a kitchen supervisor, a liftee, a bartender, and a golf course half-way house manager. Her days were spent amongst the beauty of the mountains where she learned to snowboard and made many lifelong friends whom she loved dearly. Molly was currently working as a massage therapist for Hand and Stone in Northville as well as Get Well Chiropractic in Northville.
Molly was very artistic; always exploring new mediums, she was talented at painting, ceramics, metal work, and crocheting. She took great pride in her home where she planted her favorite flowers and used her green thumb to grow houseplants. Her car was a constant reminder that it is not the destination, but the journey. Molly had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. She enjoyed spending time in the water swimming and tubing down the river. She also enjoyed playing golf. Molly loved listening to music and attending as many concerts as she could throughout the years. She adored her dog, Marshmallow or “Marsh”, a sweet rescue Pitbull, who was her constant companion. Molly was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend to many; her beautiful, kind, sweet soul will be missed by all who loved her.
Molly is survived by her loving mother, Lou (George) Sommermann; her sister, Amanda (Andrew) Riebling; her step-sisters, Robin (Ray) Leidenthal, Diana (Joe) Franchak, and Ruth (Dan) Ferrier; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Garry Johnson and her two beloved grandmothers, Joanne Monier and Mildred Johnson.
A summer Celebration of Life will be held at her sister’s home. Details to follow.
Her family is broken hearted and asks that in her memory you reach out to someone you love, talk to them, and hug them tight. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution would be appreciated to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), 199 Water Street, 11 th Floor, New York, NY 10038.
