Michael A. Newhouse, of Livonia, passed away peacefully August 14, 2021. He was born on September 28, 1960 in Livonia, Michigan; son of Raymond and Bernice (nee Sperkowski) Newhouse.
Michael graduated from Bently High School, class of 1978. He attended St. Mary’s College, Orchard Lake Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Philosophy and Social Studies, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Michael then continued his education at St. Peter’s Seminary Ontario Canada where he earned both a Masters in Theology and Church History and a Masters in Divinity and Pastoral Theology. Michael was ordained to the priesthood on May 17. 1986 at St. Columbkille's Cathedral in Pembroke Ontario, Canada. Father Michael served two parishes in Ontario and missions while living in Canada. He retired from the priesthood and came back to the United States to be with his aging parents. While home he formed great friendships through the Henry Ford, from the village to the security department over the years.
Michael loved everything history and was an avid reader. He loved to expand his knowledge and share with others. Michael was a true “Trekkie” who appreciated Star Trek the Next Generation. He enjoyed his social time and dinner with friends; his favorite dessert was vanilla Häagen-Daz ice cream. He also liked to occasionally have a good cigar. His dog Misty meant the world to him, and they shared a special bond. Michael was a devoted child of God, a loving son, and a dear friend. Michael is survived by his brother Raymond (Debbie) Newhouse and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A mass for Father Michael A. Newhouse will be celebrated on Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11am, he will lie instate from 10am until 11am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 11441 Hubbard, Livonia. He will be laid to rest at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
