Michael V. Mathers, age 76, of Novi, passed away on August 5, 2024. He was born on April 26, 1948 in Moline, Illinois; son of Robert and Shirley (Carlile) Mathers. He grew up in Streator, Illinois and moved to Michigan while in high school. Mike graduated from Grosse Pointe High, class of 1966. He attended Lawrence Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Mike was united in marriage to Annette L. Ryba on September 16, 1983; they spent over 40 years lovingly devoted to one another.
Mike was the founder and president of Roofing Technology Associates in Livonia. He was responsible for the direction, operation, and guidance of the firm, dedicating over 27 years to the company before retiring in 2018. Continuing his education and earning certificates were integral parts of his career. Mike took pride in his accomplishments and his recognition as a registered roof consultant through the Roof Consultants Institute.
When Mike was not working, he enjoyed vacationing up north and spending time with his family. An incredible photographer, he drew inspiration from his sharp awareness of people and nature. He liked to play golf, work on projects around the house, garden, and do yard work alongside his wife. A dedicated sports fan, Mike kept detailed stats on football and basketball games over the years.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Annette L. Mathers; his children, Melanie (Scott) Sobas and Matthew (Rebecca) Mathers; his sister Cindy (Brian) Smith; his brother Jeff (Allyson) Mathers; and his grandchildren, Weston, Maxwell, Venessa, and Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Stephen.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11 am with visitation beginning at 10:30 am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 23455 Novi Road, Novi, MI 48375.
