Michael C. Howe

April 24, 1944 — January 24, 2022

Michael C. Howe

How do you put into words the life of such a larger than life man who has made hundreds of other people's lives better during the span of his life .  He was dad, uncle and brother to most everyone he knew.  He helped so many because he was very good at fixing things and figuring out how to solve problems for just about anything that would go wrong from cars and machines to houses and yes even difficult life situations.  His personality and his LOVE were greater than life and will be remembered for as long as those he helped are alive.

Age 77, of Howell, a former longtime resident of Northville, passed away on January 24, 2022. He was born on April 24, 1944 in East Lansing, Michigan; son of Emmett and Margaret (Roland) Howe. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Michael was united in marriage to Joan L. Lemon on April 28, 1961, these two were such a dynamic couple with strong opinions, they bickered about small things  but were in total agreement about almost everything important. They were married at 16 and remained devoted to each other for almost 47 years until her death on March 1, 2008. And even after her death Mike continued to take Joan with him wherever he went in the wooden box he crafted big enough for two, they are now together in that beautiful box.  And more importantly are in Heaven helping to watch over the rest of us.

Michael worked in maintenance at Vulcan Iron Works for over 35 years.  Most recently, for fun, he was making coffee at Sunrise Café for friends.  He spent time sharing stories with friends and fellow army men at the local American Legion and VFW Post.  Michael was incredibly handy and could fix anything.  He liked a cold Pabst Blue Ribbon and spending time outdoors, especially camping and boating.  A thrill seeker, he enjoyed trips to Cedar Point.  Lovingly referred to as “Captain Ahab Grumpy Pants” he was always there for anyone who needed a dad, brother, or a friend.  Michael loved spending time with family and friends. He adored his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and told them often that “they belong to him”.  He was a loving, kind and generous father, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be missed by all that knew him.

Michael is survived by his loving daughter Linda A. Howe; his grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Thifault, Johnothan Thifault, and Robert Thifault; his great granddaughter, Ava Lynn; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his infant children Angela Lynn, Rose Marie, Patrick Michael, and Charles John, and his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held later in 2022. The family would appreciate memorial contributions to American Legion Deveraux Post 141, 3265 W. Grand River Ave., Howell, MI 48855.
