Melvin "Bud" Stevens

April 23, 1933 — October 17, 2018

Melvin “Bud” Stevens, age 85, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away October 17, 2018.  He was born on April 23, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan.  Bud graduated from Highland Park High School; Class of 1951.  He attended University of Michigan as the first recipient of the Evans Scholar Scholarship, which is a scholarship for golf caddies.  He then transferred to Michigan State where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree.  Bud was united in marriage to Norma J. Watson on September 1, 1956; they spent 62 loving years together as husband and wife.

Bud was currently working in the family business as the President of Guardian Manufacturing Corp. in Livonia.  He was an accomplished golfer; he won the Michigan State Amateur Golf Championship three times, played in two U.S. Opens, was inducted into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame, and had multiple hole in ones. Golf was a huge part of his life and up until recently he was a member of Washtenaw Country Club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially the times they spent fishing.  Bud’s greatest joy in life was his family, he loved them dearly and cherished the memories they made.

Bud is survived by his beloved wife, Norma J. Stevens; his children, Sheryl (John) Kudla and Keith (Denise) Stevens; his grandchildren, T.C. (Sarah) Lester, Scott Lester, Karen (Ryan) Ries, Marc (Amanda) Stevens, Joseph (Jessica) Oliver, and Matthew (Jennifer) Oliver; and his great grandchildren, Grayson, Jameson, Olivia, Maximus, Knox, Hazel, and Huxley.  He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Stevens and his sister Shirley Lahner.

Memorial visitation will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon with a Memorial Service at Noon at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Rev. Douglas Vernon from First United Methodist Church of Northville will officiate the service.  He will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park in Livonia.
