Matthew James Williams, age 39, of Northville, passed away unexpectedly on October 8, 2022. He is the son of Craig and Lorie (Weeg) Williams, brother to Eric Williams, and father to Ryder Williams.
Matt’s biggest smiles and happiest times were when he was with his son Ryder. When they were together, they would spend time playing video games, building legos, swimming, go-carting and spending time with family. Matt had recently traveled to Florida to celebrate Ryder’s 9 th birthday at a hotel with an indoor pool, which Ryder loved.
Matt grew up in Westland, where he graduated from Churchill High School in 2001. Matt was an avid hockey player starting when he was 5 years old. He loved hockey, and as goalie for Churchill’s hockey team the highlight of his hockey career was winning the championship game his senior year against their rival Stevenson High School. After graduation, he contributed his goalie skills as a coach for Churchill’s hockey team. Matt’s passion for hockey ran deep and he never stopped playing. He participated on several adult leagues, most recently in the Petoskey/Gaylord areas.
After high school Matt worked alongside his dad mastering his carpentry skills. He was a gifted carpenter and home remodeler, often helping friends and families with their DIY projects. After putting his carpentry skills aside, Matt entered into the staffing industry and quickly became a talented Senior IT Recruiter with a large staffing firm, Arrow Strategies. His Arrow Strategies’ family will not only remember him as a successful recruiter, but more importantly as a sweet, kind-hearted soul with a great sense of humor.
Matt loved sports cars, and the Camaro was his favorite. Some of his favorite times were going to the cottage on Houghton Lake with lifelong friends and his family. He enjoyed boating, snowmobiling and riding ATVs while there. Annual trips to Hilton Head with extended family brought smiles, laughs and lots of fun times playing games, trying new restaurants, cornhole on the beach and golfing.
Matt was outgoing, kind-hearted, and always had a smile on his face. His big heart and gregarious personality left an imprint on those who knew him. He was truly loved by all. His sense of humor and great laugh will be missed. He adored his son Ryder and was incredibly proud of him. Ryder recently took up soccer, and as the goalie for his team, Matt was beaming with pride.
He is survived by son Ryder Williams, his parents, Craig and Lorie (Weeg) Williams; his brother Eric Williams, and his grandmother Dorothy Memering. Matt is loved and survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by Ryder’s mother, Danielle Sweeney.
