Mary L. Kocian

March 20, 1934 — December 13, 2023

Mary L. Kocian, age 89, a longtime resident of Northville, passed away on December 13, 2023. She was born on March 20, 1934 in Huntley, Montana; daughter of George and Clementine (Danssaert) DeBoutte. She was united in marriage to Frank W. Kocian on June 12, 1954; spending over 60 years devoted to their love until his death in 2014.

Following her high school graduation, she embarked on a career at Rexall Drugs in Northville. However, her path took a turn when she married Frank, becoming the dedicated force behind the family business, Kocian Excavating. As the office manager, Mary's organizational prowess played a vital role in the success of the enterprise.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Mary's heart overflowed with love for animals. Throughout the years, her home was a haven for cats and dogs alike. She found solace and joy in the great outdoors, particularly during trips up north where camping, boating, and snowmobiling became cherished pastimes. Mary was a gracious host, known for her love of parties and the occasional Miller Lite. Her green thumb and love for gardening allowed her to bask in the sunlight while tending to her garden.

Mary's warm and welcoming spirit touched the lives of many. Her door was always open, and the coffee was always on. Her legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and an unyielding love for those around her.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Kocian; her granddaughter, Emily Vradenburg; her sister Virginia “Ginny” Macko; and Brian Vradenburg. She was preceded in death by her twin brothers, Robert “Bob” DeBoutte and Albert “Al” DeBoutte, her parents, and her husband.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held Saturday, January 13, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 4012, 438 South Main Street, Northville, MI 48167.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105. Mary's compassion for animals will live on through these thoughtful donations.
