Mary C. Bongiovanni

Age 84, of Northville, formerly of Highland, passed away July 12, 2019. Mary was born on May 7, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Frank and Clara (nee Ollariu) Hamlin. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit; Class of 1954.  Mary was united in marriage to Eugene Bongiovanni on December 3, 1971; they spent 47 loving years devoted to one another.

Mary worked for Huron Valley Public Schools as a cook and custodian.  She spent most of the 20 years at Milford High School before retiring in 1997.  She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Northville. Mary was active in the Kings Mill community; she served on the unit resale committee as well as the garden committee. While living on a lake in Highland, she enjoyed all types of water sports, especially boating and fishing.  Mary was very artistic; she was talented at painting and drawing.  An animal lover, she always had dogs; her current furry companion was Tootsie.  She liked horseback riding and had her own horse that she kept at her mother’s farm in South Lyon.  Mary rode her horse in the Northville 4 ^th of July parade for many years.  Often lucky, she enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino and visiting Las Vegas.  She was a fan of auto racing and hot rod cars; she and her husband attended many car shows throughout the years.  Mary’s family brought her the most joy and she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Eugene Bongiovanni; her daughters, Ann Eckman, Theresa Eckman, Tammy (Dave) Abbotts, and Toni (Jerry) Nowland; her grandchildren, Lance (Maria) Abbotts, Veronica Eckman, and Paul Vanroekel; her great grandchildren, Owen, Sydney, and Kaidyn; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Frank Hamlin, her granddaughter Megan Abbotts and her grandson David Vanroekel.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  Deacon Ric Misiak from Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church will officiate the service.  She will be laid to rest at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.
