Mary C. Bayerl, age 84 of Northville, passed away on February 8, 2024. She was born in Huron County, Michigan on March 19, 1939; daughter of Cecil and Leona (Wessels) Thurtle. Mary was united in marriage to Richard J. Bayerl on April 29, 1961; spending over 62 years devoted to each other. Mary and Richard began their family in Northwest Detroit and moved to Northville in 1975.

Mary, a graduate from St. Philip High School in the class of 1957, pursued further education at Argubright Business College. She commenced her professional journey with Comerica Bank in 1970, holding the position of Bank Processor. Her dedicated service spanned 25 years until her retirement in 1995.

In the hearts of those who knew her, Mary's presence was cherished and her love unconditional. As a daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, she exemplified devotion and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Mary embraced the rhythms of line dancing and square dancing, finding pleasure in movement and community. Her love for travel took her on memorable cruises to destinations like the Caribbean and Alaska. Among her pastimes, she delighted in playing games like Ticket to Ride and Mexican Train Dominos.

Remaining active and connected with nature, Mary enjoyed walking outdoors under the warm sunshine and engaging in mall-walking during less favorable weather. Her passion for birdwatching, particularly her fascination with woodpeckers, reflected her appreciation for the natural world's beauty and intricacies. Described as sweet, kind, and possessing a joyful personality, Mary's warmth and compassion radiated in her interactions with others. Her affection extended not only to her family but also to her grand-dog, Chia, whom she showered with love and, notably, cheese, giving her the title of “cheese grandma”.
