Mary Ann Shureb, age 95, formerly of Northville and Detroit, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her family on August 31, 2022. Mary Ann was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 30, 1927; daughter of Frances and Ursula (Fitzpatrick) Gaffney. Mary Ann graduated from Immaculata High School in Detroit; Class of 1944. She continued her education at U of D where she met the love of her life. Mary Ann and Walter were united in marriage on January 24, 1948; happily married for 69 years until Walter passed in 2017.
They were active members of Our Lady of Victory Parish since 1978, serving in various ministries and attending daily mass for many years. Mary Ann raised seven children and still had time for her favorite pastimes with Walter: golf, music, and especially dancing. They regularly attended many weekly senior dances until about 2014. Mary Ann was truly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. She was the favorite mom of the neighborhood and was known for her beautiful whistling. Mary Ann will be remembered fondly by friends of her sons and daughters.
Mary Ann is survived by her children, John Shureb, Richard Shureb, Robert (Kathryn) Shureb, Mary Margaret (Tony) Sole, Rose Marie Shureb, and Susan (John) Wallen; her grandchildren, Ramona Caldwell, Stephanie Shureb, Christopher Shureb, Patrick Shureb, Marie (Jonathan) Di Lello, Kevin Shureb, Josie (Benny) Corrao, Riccardo (Michelle) Sole, Rosie (Danny) Jakab, Jaithin Wallen and Mya (Miguel) Moldonado; and her great-grandchildren, Portia, Jackson, Madison, Adrian, Milo, Mason, Luca, Lorenzo, Andrew, Gia, and Manny. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, son James, her brothers Francis and Richard and her infant brother Dean.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scripture service at 7:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 7 at 11 a.m. with gathering beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Dr. Northville. Mrs. Shureb will be laid to rest next to her husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.
