Marvin E. Martin, Jr.

Marvin E. Martin Jr., age 78, of Northville, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024.  He was born on December 27, 1945 in Hickory, North Carolina; son of Marvin E. Martin Sr. and Blanche Phillips. Marvin was drafted into the United States Army in 1967. He served his country during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge.

Marvin was a dedicated employee with General Motors for 35 years as an assembler in the Powertrain Division. The years he spent at GM were divided between two plants, Ypsilanti and Toledo.

Marvin, a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, recently marked an impressive milestone of 38 years of sobriety. His journey to recovery inspired many and exemplified strength and resilience.

Marvin found solace and joy in the great outdoors, where he embraced his passion for fishing, hunting, camping, and the freedom of riding his motorcycle. Marvin had multiple fishing adventures with family and friends in Ludington, Michigan and Virginia Beach, Virginia.

A seasoned traveler, Marvin's extensive knowledge of Michigan made him an exceptional travel companion, and his adventurous spirit led all over the United States. A devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, he attended many football games with friends and family when he was a season ticket holder.

Whether basking in the sun on the beach or enjoying the tranquility of his sunny patio, Marvin found delight in these simple pleasures. His strategic prowess in poker was well-known at the casino, where he loved to showcase his skills and share moments of laughter with friends.

Marvin was a pillar of love and support as a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Known for his unwavering loyalty, stoic demeanor, and boundless love, Marvin's kindness and great sense of humor will forever be etched in our memories.

Marvin is survived by his son, Marvin (Melissa) Martin III; his grandchildren, Ewan and Macy; his brother Thomas Martin; his sister Nancy (Donald) Menius; his beloved nieces and nephews; his best friend, Dan Myers; and his devoted companion, Sharon Duncovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Martin and his sister Sheila Sloan.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville. The funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with a time of gathering beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Colette Parish, 17600 Newburgh Road, Livonia. Father Michael Loyson will officiate the service. Marvin will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
