Martha Goode

Age 76, lifelong resident of Detroit, passed away on January 11, 2020.  She was born on October 20, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of John M. and Mary (nee Morse) Goode. Martha graduated from Immaculata High School in Detroit; class of 1961.  She continued her education at Nazareth College in Kalamazoo where she earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Theology.

Martha worked as a high school theology teacher for many years.  She taught at Pontiac Catholic, Our Lady Star of the Sea, and Divine Child.  Most recently she worked as a youth minister at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brighton, retiring in 2009.  While she was teaching Martha was a Sister of St. Joseph for 25 years.

Martha was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Detroit.  Active with the church she attended daily mass and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.  She was a very generous and selfless person; she was always doing things to help others, including organizing.  She enjoyed the time she spent volunteering with Alternatives for Girls in Detroit.  Martha adored spending time with her family.  An amazing person, she will be missed by all who loved her.

Martha is survived by her loving siblings, Nancy Goode, John (Carol) Goode, Richard Goode, and Mary Francis (Ed) Burnett; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Harriet King, and her brother William Goode.

The visitation will be held Friday, January 17, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville.  The funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., in state beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1000 Eliot Street, Detroit.  Martha will be laid to rest at St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery in Brighton.
