Marie A. Berry
Age 86, of Northville, formerly of Commerce Township, passed away November 6, 2020. She was born 1934 in Quebec; daughter of Wilfred and Leonette (nee Rancourt) Bouthillet. She came to the United States as a young girl and quickly learned to speak English. During her childhood, she lived in Detroit and Dearborn. She was a graduate of Dominican High School in Detroit. She continued her education at Mount Carmel College of Nursing where she received her bachelor’s degree. Marie married Michael Berry in 1960, and they spent 48 years devoted to each other until his death in 2008.
Marie, known as Lulu to many family and friends, was an extremely thoughtful and kind person. She was a nurse who worked at various private medical practices and hospitals. Marie was a caregiver by nature and spent 20 years of her later life overseeing her elderly mother and stepfather, and caring for her son and husband during their protracted illnesses. Marie was an excellent seamstress who created memorable gifts for her family and the community. She was a tremendous artist and cartoonist, and she supported the artistic interests of her grandchildren. She was a true problem solver and helped navigate challenging situations with simple, innovative solutions. Marie enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and looked forward to the family summer vacations in Oscoda. Marie was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Marie is survived by her children, Kathleen (Tom) Spillane, Daniel (Lisa) Berry, and Timothy (Donna) Berry; her siblings, Jules Bouthillet and Margie Begin; her grandchildren, Michael (Devyn Smith) Spillane, Rebecca Spillane, Daniel (Daniela Marquez) Spillane, Elise (Chuck LeCrone) Berry, Victoria (Tom Carrio) Berry, Taylor Hentrup, Juliana Berry, Jacob Berry, and Caleb Berry; and her great grandchildren, Alana and Quinn. She was preceded in death by her husband, her son Michael, and her sister-in-law Kathleen.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard, Northville.
