Margaret J. Moore
Age 96, longtime resident of Northville, passed away May 27, 2020. She was born March 11, 1924 in Maple Rapids, Michigan; daughter of Lloyd N. and Gladys Laura (nee White) Morse. She graduated from Northville High School; Class of 1942. She was united in marriage to Lloyd H. Moore on June 4, 1944; they spent 57 loving years together until his death on March 17, 2002.
Margaret’s family owned Morse’s Dairy in Northville. She grew up working in the dairy as a child often went to local farms on milk runs with her dad. Margaret began her career as a switchboard operator with Michigan Bell in Northville. During wartime she was temporarily moved to Willow Run. When the war was over Margaret stayed home to raise her family. She later went back to work as a switchboard operator at the Northville State Hospital and eventually retired from the Michigan State Liquor Commission in 1993.
Margaret was a member of First United Methodist Church in Northville. Active with the church she volunteered in the nursery and sang in the church choir. Margaret was an avid gardener; she grew beautiful peonies that were named after First Ladies. She was fascinated by Northville history and her family’s genealogy. She was able to research her family tree back five generations. She liked to travel and sightsee; her trips included visiting family in Florida and North Carolina, New York, Hawaii, and sometimes cemeteries for her genealogic research. She enjoyed shopping and was always dressed in the latest fashion. Margaret was a wonderful mother and caring grandmother. A very private person, she taught her family valuable lessons in morals, ethics, manners, and etiquette.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, Peggy (Larry) Morse, Lloyd Moore, Jr., Karen (Ron) McCord, and Janet (Gary) Whitfield; her grandchildren, Donald (Jennifer) Lancaster, Richard Lancaster, Curt Morse, Dennis (Vanessa) Moore, Paul Moore, and Tammy Balthrop; 6 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She preceded in death by her husband, her grandson Larry Morse II, her parents, and her sisters Lucille Bergman and Beverly Lanning.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 1, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 W. Dunlap, Northville. Due to the limitation caused by COVID-19, the funeral service will be private. Mrs. Moore will be laid to rest next to her husband at Rural Hill Cemetery in Northville.
