Margaret Louise Larson

June 21, 1923 — October 15, 2023

Margaret Louise Larson celebrated her 100th birthday this past June with family and friends at Oakmont in Northville. She was born on June 21, 1923 in Muskegon, Michigan, daughter of John and Augusta M. (Matson) Lang. Margaret was raised in Muskegon and graduated from Muskegon High School, class of 1941.

She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Larson on January 6, 1945. They were devoted to each other for 63 years until his death on March 26, 2009. Charles served in the United States Air Force which took the newly married couple all over. They settled down in Carmichael,
California where they spent over 30 years before moving back to Muskegon in 2008.

After graduating from high school in 1941, Margaret attended nursing school, then working much of her career at Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids. She also volunteered during World War II as a Nurse, assisting all those in need. When her family grew, she retired to focus
on them. However, still volunteering often at their local hospital in Carmichael, CA as well as at the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She felt strongly about volunteering and giving back. She also believed in the importance of educating young minds.

Margaret loved everything flowers. Not only did she appreciate the beauty of flowers, but she loved the peace she felt when she gardened. She had the most amazing sunflower garden in her home in Carmichael, CA. She enjoyed travelling all over Michigan and California, she enjoyed
Lake Tahoe, going on vacation to Alaska, taking multiple cruises, and visiting Mackinac Island where she would admire the lilacs. She was an avid reader and bird watcher. A great day included listening to Lawrence Welk and watching her favorite “program”, CBS News Sunday
Morning with Jane Pauley. Margaret believed in traditional values, she was a supportive wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughters were her proud namesakes.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Linda Louise (the late James P.) Cull; her granddaughter, Jennifer Louise (Christopher) Furlong; her grandson, James Charles Cull; her great granddaughters, Olivia Louise Furlong and Emily Margaret Furlong; her sister-in-law, Peggy
Lang; her niece, Jane (Mitch) Neufeld; and her dear friends, Diane and Doug Cooper, who were more like family than neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son David Larson, her brother Robert Lang, her sister-in-law Joyce Taylor, and her nephew Robert Lang.

In her final days, Margaret continued to say she wanted to be with her handsome pilot husband. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly in a private ceremony.
