Marcia L. Engelhart

Marcia L. Engelhart, age 71, of Highland Township, formerly of Dearborn and Grand Blanc, passed away February 15, 2023.  She was born on September 1, 1951 in Hammond, Indiana; daughter of Raymond and Florence (Nieckula) Smalarz. She married Richard Engelhart on October 7 th , 1972 and they spent 13 loving years together until his death in 1985.  After being introduced by close friends, Marcia found love again with Michael Uchniat. They were united in marriage on July 11, 1987 and spent 32 years devoted to one another until his death on June 18, 2020.

Marcia graduated from Marian Catholic High School; Class of 1969.  Following high school, she attended cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser until she became a mom and stopped to care for her two children, Michele + Kyle. She later earned an Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from Mercy College of Detroit.  As her children grew, Marcia reentered the workforce and had a variety of careers over the years from Dental Receptionist, to Dental Assistant and Florist to Customer Service Representative with Bed, Bath, and Beyond, from where she retired in 2020. Marcia was a member of Divine Child Catholic Church in Dearborn for many years.

Marcia was known for her big beautiful smile and having the best laugh. She had a wonderful eye for design and kept a meticulous home and yard.  She enjoyed being outdoors gardening and watching the birds that flocked to the many feeders she had in her yard.  She also enjoyed crafting, crocheting, cross stitching, crossword puzzles and flower arranging.  Marcia made delicious Polish specialties like golumpki and other family favorites like turkey tetrazzini and mushroom soup.  She was a fierce pinochle and backgammon player, often hosting friends and family for friendly competition.  She often won, and was known for luckily “rolling doubles” much to her competition’s dismay.  Marcia loved spending time with her children and family playing games, cards, and watching tv.  Affectionately known as “Mimi”, she adored her grandson with whom she had a special bond and showered with unconditional love and affection.  Marcia was a loving mother, Mimi, sister, cousin and friend; she will be missed by all who loved her.

Marcia is survived by her loving children, Michele (Mike Bentley) Silvestri and Kyle (Jessica Hartwig) Engelhart; her grandson, Dominic Silvestri; her brother-in-law, Dennis Conn; her nephew, Jeffrey (Sarah) Conn; and many cousins and close friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Richard Engelhart, her second husband Michael Uchniat, and her sister Alicia Conn.
