Lynn G. Darragh

Lynn (Lola) Gillam Darragh

Age 93, passed away on December 16, 2019.  She was born on November 9, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Embra Bailey and Mable Henrietta (née Keppen) Gillam. Lynn grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cooley High School, class of 1944. She coordinated her class reunions for many years. Lynn continued her education at the University of Michigan earning her bachelor’s degree first and then her master’s degree. She was united in marriage to James (Jim) Michael Darragh and had six wonderful children.

Lynn was a teacher with Dearborn Public Schools, teaching mostly 2 ^nd grade. She retired in 1966 but continued substitute teaching. Lynn raised her family in Dearborn Heights and moved to Northville where she has lived for the last 20 years.

Lynn’s legacy was the love she shared with her family. Her children and grandchildren were the most important part of her life. Being very social, Lynn enjoyed going to sports games, plays, and concerts. Her favorite team was the Detroit Tigers, she attended as many games as she could at both Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park, but watched them avidly on tv.  Lynn also enjoyed rooting for her alma mater, University of Michigan, any chance she could. Her favorite place to visit was her cottage in Rondeau Park, Ontario on Lake Erie. She and her family spent numerous great summers at the cottage. Lynn loved the holidays, especially Christmas. She was a loving, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.

Lynn is survived by her children, Janet Darragh, J. Michael (Karla) Darragh, Jr., Kathy (the late Rick Simian) Darragh, Robert (Renée) Darragh, Susan Darragh, and Steve Darragh; and her grandchildren, Michael, Charles, Alex, Annie, Isabelle, and Ricky. Although she grew up as an only child, Lynn considered Dick Shuman like a brother and his entire family to be a very important part of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law Rick Simian, and Dick Shuman.

Lynn was laid to rest on December 19, 2019 at Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.
