Lucy R. Shaw

Lucy R. Shaw, age 93, of Osseo, formerly a longtime resident of Northville, passed away June 21, 2023.  She was born on April 28, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Ward and Annie (Darragh) Griswold.  She attended Plymouth High School; class of 1949.  Lucy was united in marriage to Elmer L. Bennett in April 1947; they spent 37 years devoted to one another until his death on February 23, 1985.  She found love again with Harvey C. Shaw and they were married on April 17, 1996 for four years until his death on April 22, 2000.

Lucy worked as a Senior Line Assigner with Michigan Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1989.  She was a member of Plymouth First United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of Vivian’s the women’s auxiliary for Plymouth Elks, Lodge 325.

Lucy enjoyed bowling and in her younger years bowled on a league with coworkers from Michigan Bell.  She also enjoyed crocheting and shared her talent crocheting mittens for charity.   Incredibly lucky, Lucy liked playing slot machines at the casino or online and scratch off tickets.  She often treated herself to Diet Coke, Hersey Kisses or Cheetos.  On occasion she shared a Cheeto with Linda’s dogs whom she lovingly referred to as “her kids.”   At her home in Northville where she lived for many years, Lucy and her first husband Elmer, had a large vegetable garden.  She spent many hours canning tomatoes and the other harvests to enjoy at a later date.  Lucy was devoted to her family and was constantly caring for her grandchildren.  Some of her greatest days were spent with family on Bird Lake enjoying an evening pontoon boat ride.

Lucy is survived by her loving children, Jerry Bennett and Linda (Mike) Johnson; her sister, Nancy Corwin; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer L. Bennett; her second husband, Harvey C. Shaw; her daughter, Gail Dekun; her parents; 2 brothers; and 5 sisters.

The visitation will be held Monday, June 26, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.  She will be laid to rest at Salem Walker Cemetery in Salem Township, Michigan.
