Leone Marie Lanning, age 95, of Redford Township, passed away October 15, 2023. She was born on September 28, 1928 in Canton, Michigan; daughter of Harry and Evelyn (Simms) Richards. She was united in marriage to Floyd “Bill” Lanning on September 28, 1950. They devoted over 55 years to each other until his death on June 14, 2006.
As newlyweds while Bill served his country in the United States Army, their home was where he was stationed. In 1953 they built a home in Redford Township where Leone has lived for 70 years. A hard worker, she worked as a caretaker for 17 years at the Botsford Historic Home in Farmington.
Her most important job was being a wonderful mom and taking care of her family. Leone was an excellent cook. She enjoyed going to festivals and spending as much time as she could with her family. Simply being outdoors camping with her family brought her an abundance of happiness. Those camping adventures began in a tent and graduated over the years to a camper. Leone also enjoyed working in the garden growing her beautiful flowers which included iris’, poppies, and tulips. Leone had a great optimistic spirit. Stubborn at times, but always loving, she was a kind-hearted and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, g.g., meme, aunt and friend.
Leone is survived by her loving children, Robert (Martha) Lanning, Suzanna M. Lanning, and Timothy (Dianna) Lanning; her grandchildren, Patricia (David) Rodgers, Katie Lanning, Matthew Lanning, Michele (Rich) Bollei, Timothy (Jamie) Lanning, Jr., Randy Lanning, and Brian (Amanda “Bunnie”) Lanning; and her great grandchildren, Trent, Kyle, Brooke, Autumn, Brett, Emily, Jack, Damien, Chanse, Ethan, Alaina, Colton, Blake, Benjamin, and Bailey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her granddaughter-in-law Miranda Lanning; her great granddaughter McKenna; her brothers, Harry Richards Jr., Jay Richards, and LaVerne Richards; and her sister Beverly Richards.
