Leona M. Janisewski

August 12, 1937 — March 17, 2025

Leona M. Janisewski, age 87, of Northville, passed away on March 17, 2025. She was born on August 12, 1937 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; daughter of Robert and Leona (Wellings) Sloan. Leona was united in marriage to Irvin L. Janisewski on August 22, 1981; they spent over 32 years together until his death on December 29, 2013.

Leona grew up in Toronto, Canada. After graduating from high school, she entered the workforce, building a successful career as an office manager at Purina and later for a printing company. Her strong organizational skills and determination contributed to her professional success. After meeting Irvin, Leona decided to retire and relocate to Northville, Michigan. This was true love coming from a proud Irish Canadian taking a leap of faith in the States. She remained active in retirement, helping her stepdaughter at Hartland Pizza when needed, assisting in the kitchen and supporting daily operations.

In her younger years Leona was a member of the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Livonia. An avid reader, she especially loved books by Nora Roberts. Leona had a passion for bingo and could often be found at bingo halls with her girlfriends, chasing the big jackpot and admiring the variety of good luck charms. She also enjoyed an occasional scotch and a glass or two of red wine.

Leona loved traveling to the Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin, Canada, and Georgia, always with the goal of spending time with family. Other than her endearing love for dogs, especially her dear Mugsie and Missy, her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she held a deep and unwavering love for them. Leona cherished the outdoors, whether she was fishing, relaxing by a campfire, or simply admiring the water. Known for her generous spirit, she gave freely, even when nothing was needed. Leona will be remembered for her one-of-a-kind personality, her generosity, and her love of bingo.

Leona is survived by her stepdaughters, Charlene (Ronald) Farmer and Judith (Kenneth) Peterson; her brother, Robert (Judy) Sloan; her sister-in-law, Jody Sloan; her beloved, Kelly-Jo (Pete Wiebe) Wellings, Glen (Jody) Wellings, Mark (Sarah) Wellings, and Bradley (Pamela) Wellings; her grandchildren, Andrea (Robert) Ackerman, Amy (Jill) Walker, Michael Peterson, Matthew (Catherine) Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Nicole (Joseph) Burgess, and Justin (Janice) Coit; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was also loved by a special niece and many nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Ross Sloan.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from Noon until 1:30 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Casterline Funeral Home, 122 West Dunlap, Northville.  She will be laid to rest at 2:45 p.m. at Glen Eden Memorial Park, 35667 Eight Mile Road, Livonia.
