Lawrence Francis Delano Gucken

Lawrence Francis Gucken, passed away on March 30, 2020. He was born on November 19,1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; son of Frank and Loretta (nee Dignan) Gucken. Lawrence was united in marriage to Sylvia A. Oesterling on November 24, 1961; devoted to each other for over 58 years.

Known as Larry by his friends and family, he was a curious and lifelong learner, a philosopher on a quest to discover the “secrets of the universe”. He was a dedicated father and husband who loved his family immensely and unconditionally.  Larry was an Army Veteran and a proud Penn State alumnus, Civil Engineering, class of 1961. Larry had a long and notable career in Systems Controls where he thrived in sales and made many innovative product developments in his field.  Larry and Sylvia made their home and community in Northville, Michigan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia (Oesterling); his children, Kevin Gucken, and Erin (Paul) Black; his daughter-in-law Michelle Belline Gucken; his grandchildren, who adored him and called him Grandpop, Maxwell Black, Sean Patrick (Lindsey) Gucken, Caia (Jonathan) Cross, Meghan Gucken and Jeffery Gucken; his great grandchildren, Sean Michael Coffey and Henry Cross; his sister Joan Gucken; and his son-at-heart Scott Douglas (Judy) Brown. He was also loved by a very large extended family. Larry was preceded in death by his son Sean Gucken and his sister Mary Jane Hill.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 10:30am with a time of gathering beginning at 10am at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. 133 Orchard Street, Northville. Family and friends are required to wear a mask when attending the funeral mass.
