Kenneth C. Walker

June 9, 1941 — December 26, 2021

Kenneth C. Walker

Age 80, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, formerly of Detroit and Drummond Island, passed away on December 26, 2021. He was born on June 9, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan; son of William and Harriet (Bauman) Walker.  He graduated from Cass Tech High School in Detroit; Class of 1959.  Following high school, he continued his education at Detroit Institute of Technology where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration as well as a MBA from Wayne State University.  Ken was united in marriage to Bette Brichta on August 24, 1967; they spent 54 years lovingly devoted to one another.

Ken proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1966-1968.  Prior to enlisting, he attended Small Arms Firing School that was sponsored by the Department of the Army.  The marksmanship training the received gave him the opportunity to teach marksmanship to others during his enlistment.  He worked as a telecommunications manager for Michigan Bell, retiring after 30 years.  After retirement, he and his wife moved to Drummond Island in northern Michigan where he joined the Lions Club. Recently they moved to North Carolina to be closer to family.

Ken served on the HOA of the communities he lived in and often volunteered his time to make the area he was living a better place.  While living on Drummond Island, he worked very hard with his neighbors to improve the road conditions on their private road and made reusable signs for the Sportsman Club during deer hunting season.  Ken also wrote an article for the Drummond Island Digest called, Straight Talk, which covered whatever subject he was interested in at the moment.  He was an avid reader, especially books on the history of WWII and adventure novels by Lee Childs and Tom Clancy.  He went deer hunting each fall with the same group of friends for over 50 years.  His sense of adventure also took him skydiving.  Ken was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother and is missed by all who loved him.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Bette Walker; his children, Michael (Pam) and Marin (Fred); his two grandchildren; and his sister Carol Walker.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
