Karen Kay Dedo

Karen Kay Dedo passed away peacefully on Friday, January 21, 2021 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was born on September 14, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan; daughter of Thomas and Kathryn (neé Kovaleski) Dedo. Karen is the beloved mother of Elizabeth (Vince DeLuca) Dombles and Kathrine Dombles. She is the adoring grandmama of Natalie Dombles. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Karen was a native of Dearborn, Michigan and graduated from Dearborn High School in 1960. In her younger years, she would spend the summers in Charlevoix hosting and waitressing at The Weathervane Restaurant and spent many summers on Lake Michigan. She loved the Petosky and Charlevoix area and always spoke fondly of her time on Lake Michigan.

After attending Western Michigan University, she spent most of her career in secretarial and sales. Karen had an adventurous spirit and loved art and fashion. Proud of her beauty and her eccentric style, she always had on her makeup, jewelry, and perfume which made her day. Karen with her one-of-a-kind personality, overcame so many obstacles and never complained. She loved talking to people and had a way of making anyone she met feel special, this is how she gained so many friends. Karen loved to go treasure hunting at antique stores and garage sales. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis and Rod Stewart, fishing, and being with her companion “bear”. Some of her favorite foods were chocolate chip cookies and chips.

Her family was the most important part of her life. She cherished her daughters, granddaughter, and her son-in-law. Spending time with them made her heart happy. Her bond with her granddaughter, whom she affectionately called “baby”, was so strong. Karen adored watching “baby” play and listening to her son-in-law play the accordion and sing. Her spirit and life embodied love, compassion, and hope.

A funeral mass will be celebrated with the family present at St. William Parish in Walled Lake. Father Michael Savickas will officiate the service. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Michigan Humane Society , 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 220, Bingham Farms, MI 48025.
