Jungshill Kim, age 90, of Novi, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024. She was born on April 8, 1934 in Manchuria to Korean parents who later moved to South Korea where she grew up. She earned her degree in Education from Seoul National University and taught middle school girls until her marriage to Sukhyun Kim on August 8, 1958.
As a young mother in the 1960s in Korea, Jungshill chose to be a full-time homemaker and devoted her life to building a family with an unbreakable bond. She nurtured her 3 children with unconditional love while supporting her husband's military career which required frequent moves. Many of the remote places the young family moved to were underdeveloped and often dangerous. Through all the adversities and challenges, her strong will and positive attitude left an indelible impression on anyone who knew her, especially her children. As a devout Christian, she instilled love and peace in her children by living her life in God's love and grace. Her ever-present warm, kind smile reflected what was in her heart.
When the family immigrated to the US in 1978, she faced new and even more difficult challenges - basically starting her life over, along with cultural and language barriers. Once again, she remained strong and dedicated her life to providing for the family. She sacrificed herself by working long hours at a dry cleaner for a decade to ensure her children could get the best education. She stayed healthy physically and emotionally and remained true and strong spiritually. Even after being diagnosed with autoimmune disease and end-stage kidney failure, and while on the ensuing dialysis, she never ceased being a positive catalyst for the family.
Jungshill is survived by her loving husband of more than 65 years, Sukhyun Kim; her daughter, Lily Koo; her sons, Paul Kim and John Kim; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
